studied at kyotocollege of fine arts, where he later became a professor.

in 1919 ,showed with the first exhibition of the teiten ; subsequently with the nitten.

winner of maidici art prize in 1949.

member of japan art accademy.

received order of cultural merit in 1961.

one of the most important and indipendent figures in the contemporary japanese-style painting world.
